LOCAL COMPANY LAUNCHES "GREENPAGES"

Since it launched its online 'green' directory in August, a small local company has received 'overwhelmingly positive' feedback from businesses looking for an alternative to other costly directory services.

Greenpages is a business directory for environmentally friendly products and services.  The idea was conceived by an Ardmore-based husband and wife team who recognized a growing need by businesses for a website to showcase green products, services and actions.

Like other conventional directories, consumers can search for businesses by location, name or category. Greenpages' point of difference is that users can also search by green actions such as wines with organic certification. Consumers can make purchasing decisions based not only on price or location, but also the environmental impact of the business they want to engage.

Greenpages Key Accounts Manager, Michelle Grocock, is quick to point out that the company does not play the role of 'The Green Police'.  "We don't judge who is the best kind of green.  We support any business who does something positive for the environment - from small actions such as a local mechanic who recycles his oil, rages and tyres to larger actions such as slashing carbon dioxide emissions.  They're all good actions in the eyes of Greenpages".

Greenpages is keen to give back to the community too, offering schools a donation for every paid listing they refer.  "Any paid directory listings referred to us by schools will earn the school 20% of the listing cost," says Mrs Grocock.  The company also plans to engage students in environmental education in the future.
