Homicide investigation launched at Newtown Park Flats, Wellington

WELLINGTON CITY

Wellington Police have upgraded the discovery of a body found at the Newtown Park Flats to a homicide investigation.

The body of the deceased was discovered on Wednesday afternoon.

Acting Detective Inspector Scott Miller, head of the investigation, says preliminary results of the post-mortem examination carried out on the deceased last night suggests she died a violent death.

"The scene examination in and around Flat 166 and the post-mortem examination are continuing today."

Police believe the deceased was last seen on Thursday of last week.

"Police are aware that an argument may have occurred at Flat 166 on Sunday night. Anyone who has seen any activity in and around this address should phone Police."

Acting Detective Inspector Miller says Police are talking to neighbours and other residents at the Newtown Park Flats today and this will continue over the weekend.

"I urge anyone with information to come forward. Residents at Newtown Park Flats with any information can speak to an officer at the scene today and over the weekend or people can phone a free phone number set up today on 0800 2 PUAWAI (0800 2 782 924)."
