Advisory Oceania Track Cycling Championships
There’s plenty at stake for riders in the Oceania Track Cycling Championships in Invercargill starting on Monday.
Winners of elite titles will earn an automatic place for their country in April’s UCI World Championships in Melbourne, which will provide crucial final qualifying points for the London Olympics.
The Oceania Championship events also offer qualifying points for London.
The New Zealand team are in training at the ILT Velodrome this week ahead of the championships, with results from this camp and the competition next week to decide a show Olympic team that leaves next Friday night for the World Cup in Cali, Colombia.
A second BikeNZ team will contest January’s World Cup in Beijing, ahead of final selection for the World Championships and London Olympics.
Riders from Australia and the Pacific will compete. Racing starts on Monday with qualifying in the morning from 10am and finals from 6.30pm through to Thursday.
Sports Media NZ will provide a short release after the morning session (approx 2pm), an interim evening wrap at approximately 8.30pm and a final wrap with full results by 11pm.
Previews will be filed on Friday and Sunday.
