A high tide is expected in the Lower Avon River and Lower Heathcote River between 6pm and 8pm today (Tuesday 5 June 2012).

The peak tide, combined with an incoming low pressure weather system, could result in surface flooding in certain areas.

Christchurch City Council will continue to monitor the situation and contractors are on standby to respond to any surface flooding issues if required.

Effects on roads

  • The tide may cause surface flooding in some parts of:
  • Dallington Terrace
  • Eastern Terrace
  • River Road between Medbury Terrace and Dallington Terrace
  • New Brighton Road between Palmers Road and Pages Road
  • Avonside Drive between Gayhurst Road and Swanns Road
  • Hulverstone Drive
  • Clarendon Terrace
  • Richardson Terrace
  • Owles Terrace

Road closures may be required on some sections of these roads. Please follow all road signage and travel to the conditions.

Transport and Greenspace Unit Manager Alan Beuzenberg says the Council routinely monitors high tides and takes precautionary measures when it is expected they may cause surface flooding.

“The Council will continue to monitor high tides expected in coming days and will take action to address any surface flooding issues if required.”
