Christchurch lad Jarred Christmas has raised £2500 at a Kiwi comedy show in London for Canterbury earthquake relief.

A former Court Theatre improv performer and Hagley College graduate, Jarred performed his first ever gig at the Green Room in Christchurch in 1997. The Green Room was until recently operating as The Hive, in Lichfield Street; the building appears to have collapsed in last Thursday’s quake, as seen in press photographs published earlier this week. It was damaged but still standing after the Sept 4 shake.

Auckland based Awesomeness International promoter and manager, Rosie Carnahan, ran the Green Room back then, and says she is so proud of the efforts everyone is making to raise money – and a laugh!

“Jarred recently appeared on the hit British TV show, “Let’s Dance for Comic Relief” and was stunningly funny – the judges and viewers loved him,” says Rosie. “Like many Cantabrians away from home right now, he wants to do whatever he can to help. He’s also looking forward to coming back to New Zealand in April.”

Jarred performs next month in this year’s International Comedy Festival in Auckland and Wellington. Rosie’s business partner and husband, comedian and actor Rhys Darby, will host an ensemble of the festival acts at Ascension Winery, Matakana on Thursday April 28 and Saturday April 30.
