Car flips with family on board
A car carrying a family of four flipped while driving through road works near Tongaporutu late last night.
Mokau constable Daniel Walter said an Auckland family suffered only minor injuries when their car flipped onto its passenger side after loosing control on a patch of road works on State Highway 3 at 11.45 last night.
The car, carrying two adults and two children, was heading south along State Highway 3 when an oncoming car flicked a stone into the windscreen, causing the driver to flinch and lose control, Mr Walter said.
The family were taken to Taranaki Base Hospital as a precaution, he said.
''One of the passengers had minor bumps and bruises but other than that they were relatively unscathed,'' Mr Walter said.
With a lot of road works on the northern side of State Highway 3 at the moment drivers needed to show extra caution and obey temporary speed limits, he said.
''Don't get complacent when you see road works sign - slow down and obey the speed limit.''
