Labour is expressing its support and sympathy for the families of the 29 miners killed at Pike River two years ago today.

“The loss of the 29 men that day will not be forgotten. It was a tragedy that should never have happened. Our sincere condolences go to all those who are gathering on the West Coast at 3.45pm today to hold a minute’s silence in their memory.

“Their families, friends and the country as a whole mourn their loss but also celebrate their lives and the contribution they made to their communities. May they rest in peace,” said David Shearer.
