The Malaysia New Zealand Chamber of Commerce today donated $100,000 to the University of Canterbury from the chamber’s Christchurch earthquake appeal.

The donation will provide $50,000 for five Malaysian student scholarships in 2013 for enrolment in 2014; $20,000 to the CEISMIC digital archive project to provide training for UC students and help build a comprehensive digital archive of the Canterbury earthquakes; $20,000 to support disadvantaged students through UC’s schools outreach programme and $10,000 towards the refurbishment of the Muslim prayer room on campus.

The Malaysia NZ Chamber of Commerce chairman Richard Tankersley was to meet UC Vice-Chancellor Dr Rod Carr and the UC Muslim Students Association on campus today. UC Alumni and Development manager Graeme Steven said the Malaysia NZ Chamber of Commerce is also donating to the Christchurch Cathedral and the Arts Centre.
