Power back on to Bay Of Plenty following outage

Taurunga and the whole of the Bay Of Plenty had a massive power outage this afternoon.

The outage occured at 2pm and caused banks to close, ANZ banks in the Bay Of Plenty all closed until futher notice.

It has been reported that ANZ banks are just thirty miniutes from being re-opened.

The outage also occured some phone calls to be ended including emergency calls.

The outage covered over an hour, Power co posted to there website that the outage would be fixed by 4pm today.

Residents that were in the CBD reported people coming out of malls and shops following the outage. 

Many shops including supermarkets are also closed and may not reopen for the rest of the day following the one hour outage. 

A Powerco spokesperson that spoke with Dribble NZ News said "It wasnt certain why the outage occured, but investigations are underway".

The outage affected many areas but the whole of the Bay of Plenty was affected including some small outter suburbs. 

A fire service spokesperson told Dribble NZ News they knew very little about the sittuation. 

Many traffic lights stoped causing traffic problems around the city.

The power outage was fixed just momments ago.
