CHRISTCHURCH

More than two hundred hard hit Christchurch families will have some extra seasonal cheer thanks to the Rebuild Christchurch Foundation’s Project Christmas.

Today presents are being bought and hampers assembled ready for delivery on Thursday.

Rebuild Christchurch’s Deon Swiggs says the support from a number of organisations has meant this years Project Christmas will be even bigger and better than last year.

“Sanitarium, She Chocolat, the Warehouse and State Insurance, the Breeze, Mainland Foundation, and many other small contributions made by others in the way of small donations or gifts. Without their involvement we could not have had the money or presents for these struggling families,” he says.

On Thursday, a team from Rebuild Christchurch will board the She Chocolat bus and deliver hampers around the city. Recipients have yet to be contacted so the delivery schedule has yet to be confirmed – for a photo opportunity.

“It was abundantly clear from the 350 nominations we received that there are still many families and individuals still doing it hard. Most recipients have children and we know the gifts they will receive this week will put a smile on their faces,” Swiggs says.

Deon Swiggs also acknowledged the Rebuild Christchurch team of volunteers including Anthea Livingstone, Olivia Smith, Jesse Calder and others without whom Project Christmas would not happen.
