To help shoppers over the Christmas finish line, Bayfair Shopping Centre is taking the wheel and putting the brakes on one of the holiday seasons major stressors; car parking.

Early this month, Bayfair debuted the SmartGuide system in the ground level of the undercover shopping centre carpark. Designed to remove the stress of finding a car park, the SmartGuide system uses overhead lights to indicate when a bay is full or empty. The number of available parks within the defined space is also clearly presented at the entrance, giving shoppers an early indication of which way to turn.

Steve Ellingford, Bayfair Shopping Centre manager welcomes the addition to the Bayfair parking area. “The new SmartGuide parking system takes the stressful guess work out of finding a park – if there’s one available, the system will tell you.

“We’re pleased to have been able to install this revolutionary system just in time for Christmas. Along with our one-way lanes in the undercover carpark, it will improve the traffic flow and reduce any points of congestion in the carpark area, which means shoppers can get their shopping done quicker, easier and stress-free.”

The SmartGuide car parking system is one of many technologically advanced systems provided by CPT (Car Parking Technologies), a company founded in 2003 by Cambridge entrepreneur Paul Collins. Paul developed the popular system in his own garage after becoming frustrated at not being able to find a car park.
