Mayor Alistair Sowman will lead a Marlborough business delegation to Christchurch late next month, to scope more opportunities for Marlborough business in the post-earthquake rebuild.

Following on from the successful forum held in Blenheim four months ago, it’s another chance for local businesspeople to make direct contact with the management of some of the major Christchurch rebuild projects.

New contracts for Marlborough construction and engineering firms emerged from the first forum and it’s hoped that this trip will help generate further opportunities.

The trip is being organised as part of the Council’s Smart and Connected economic development activity, in partnership with the Marlborough Chamber of Commerce. The two-day visit is scheduled for January 28 and 29, 2013.

The programme is still being finalised but it will include a presentation from the Stronger Christchurch Rebuild Team and the chance to speak directly to key figures from the large businesses leading the rebuild.

An update from CERA and a visit into the Red Zone has been requested and a close look at a one of the biggest new housing developments north of the city is also being arranged.

  • architecture and design
  • roading
  • commercial or residential construction
