Copper pipe stolen from Waterworld Hamilton
Staff at Hamilton’s Waterworld facility arrived this morning to find that 2.5m of copper pipe had been stolen from the gas line to the Spa pool.
A smell of gas greeted staff at 5.20 am as they were opening up. Matt Horne, Swimming Facilities Manager, reported that the gas line to the Spa pool was exposed with the removal of the copper piping. “We evacuated the building immediately and the Fire Service was called. They isolated the gas supply and the area is now deemed to be perfectly safe.”
Mr Horne said Approximately 2.5m of 40mm diameter pipe was removed. “We are currently sourcing a gas fitter to replace the missing pipe.”
Only the gas line to the spa was affected and all other services are operational.
Police are investigating.
