TORNADO REPORTED

A storm in New Plymouth was what residents were waking up to a 5.30am this morning here in New Plymouth.

By, 6am Dribble NZ News recieved many reports of a tornado in New Plymouth.

A resident, Haley reported the tornado as being a 'small' tornado but it gave her a shock.

"It was near Oakura, and it looked like it was moving very fast"

She added "I was on my way to work and just glimpsed over to the side and saw it, I had to stop the car to see if it was coming this way."

A holiday maker in New Plymouth told Dribble NZ News 'It looked like the tornado was 50 meters away from me. "I was frightened."

No damage or injuries has been reported.

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING: STORM GOES OVER NEW PLYMOUTH

Although some weather experts did say tornados could be possible due to a severe weather warning for North Taranaki, where flash flooding could be potential.

One New Plymouth resident told Dribble NZ "there is a dark cloud over New Plymouth at the moment, if it rains it could be a large fall"

This follows high tempretures in the region because of a low that is travelling around the area at the moment, when a low pushes all of the hot air down it then means there is no space for it to move bringing hot tempretures but making it very humid.

A New Plymouth resident Bridget said there has been outstanding tempretures, I have never in my entire life felt this in Taranaki she told Dribble NZ News.
