Quad bike victim named

At approximately 11:15pm on  Saturday the 5th of January the rider of a quad motorbike has fallen from his vehicle on Gardiners Road, Rakaia and suffered fatal injuries.

He was Andrew Hamish BAXTER aged 45 of Rakaia.

He had been out checking irrigators on his farm  when the crash occurred.  He was located on the grass verge beside the road.

Enquiries as to what caused Mr Baxter to fall from his quad bike are continuing.

The police would like to reiterate that they recommend that all users of farm bikes and off road vehicles wear helmets and hi-viz clothing and have the appropriate training.

They ask that rural families and communities look out for each other encourage the wearing of this safety gear.
