Starting at this week’s Calder Stewart National Road Cycling Championships, the Benchmark Homes Cycling Team will be racing in Champion System clothing for the next three years.

The custom clothing company will be the team’s official technical apparel provider and Chris Lawrence, one of the Christchurch based trade team’s managers, said he was excited by the deal.

“It didn't take long to establish Champion System offered a quality product with consistency in cut, sizing and comfort,” he said

“With the option of small orders and fast turnaround, we can order when and as required. This prevents over ordering. We have had nothing but great feedback from the riders about the kit. They really rate the comfort of the Razor Bibs, the most important item of the kit for any rider.”

Champion System New Zealand is pleased to be associated with what is arguably New Zealand's top cycling team for 2013. The striking orange and white Benchmark Cycling Team clothing has been a feature of the New Zealand elite cycling scene for six years and has proved a valuable profile and marketing vehicle for the Canterbury home building company.

“Benchmark Homes has an impressive track record of supporting cycling,” Champion System New Zealand spokesperson Hayden Godfrey said. “They have certainly grown their brand through strong links with the cycling community.”

“The Benchmark Cycling Team has supported and developed some great riders over the years and has always had an eye towards the development side of cycling. It’s exciting to see the team step up to another level in 2013.”

Godfrey said he was looking forward to watching the team race the elite nationals this weekend and to have New Zealand’s most successful professional rider Julian Dean ride his final race in Benchmark Cycling Team colours was something very special.

“Julian’s track record speaks for itself and to have him sign off such a distinguished career in with a ride in the Benchmark Cycling Team kit is fantastic.”

After this weekend’s elite nationals event Dean will take up a management role with the professional team he has been riding for, Orica GreenEdge.
