Two quakes strike Taranaki

Two earthquakes have struck Taranaki near New Plymouth, the first at 9.29pm, it was a magnitude 3 earthquake that residents thought was 'a truck hitting the house'.

The quake struck 10km near New Plymouth at a depth of 5km.

The second struck at 10.03pm and was a magnitude 2.4 quake and struck at a depth of 6km.

The quakes were both light to moderate.
