Christchurch band ‘The Make Believe’ will perform in St Andrews at Rangi Ruru on Wednesday, as part of the school’s regular church service as the school gears up for their annual “Love Week” to celebrate St Valentine’s Day and promote school spirit.

The local band which has signed a five album, five year record contract in the US, is due to release their new single "All For You" on the second anniversary of the February earthquake in Christchurch.

Year 13 Senior Team Leader and  Form Activities  Head, Emily Boyd, says although Valentine’s Day is on Thursday, Years 8 and  9 students are on camp this week so the main Love Week activities will take place next week.

“It’s important that the week includes everyone at school who wants to take part,” she says. “With some girls away we thought a preview on Wednesday was a good start and then the following Monday when everyone is back, Love Week would properly get underway.”

Other activities next week include a Pink and Red Mufti Day and a performance by another Christchurch band, ‘Moorhouse’ on Thursday at lunchtime, a performance by the school’s barbershop quartet, candy floss and face-painting.

“Of course we want to have some fun but we will also be promoting the importance of self-belief, confidence, friendships, loyalty and supporting each other,” says Emily.

Note: ‘The Make Believe’ Facebook page (with more than 20,000 fans) says “February the 22nd marks the 2nd anniversary of a big Earthquake that rocked our home town of Christchurch and took many lives. So we thought it fitting that we released our next single on that date. It's called "All For You" and it's about remembering lost loved ones. It's personally our favorite song we've written/recorded as a band and we cannot wait for you to hear it!”

‘The Make Believe’ will perform for Rangi Ruru at St Andrews at Rangi Ruru, on Merivale Lane at 8.30am tomorrow (Wednesday 13th February).
