If ever there was proof that you do not need to be an elite athlete to compete in the world’s largest running series, the Warrior Dash, this group of ladies, and one man, are it. The team, ‘Blood, Sweat, Beers’, are currently preparing to complete the 5km muddy obstacle course, which is set to take New Zealand by storm when it hits Wellington and Auckland.

The adventure seeking group will be one of thousands expected to haul through treacherous waters, manoeuvre through tangled ropes, conquer barricades and leap fire to finish in Auckland on 6th April.

According to the team leader, Heather Bates, it takes more than physical fitness to compete; mental strength is also a must.

“I’d definitely say we are all mentally strong as opposed to physically fit….a few of the team members are involved in LandSAR, which takes a lot of physical and mental strength” says Heather.

The group, who have completed numerous similar events over the past 5 years, say they are always looking for a new challenge and when they heard about the Warrior Dash, which has over 1,000,000 competitors in worldwide, it was a must for the team. Especially as it means they can indulge in their love of mud.

“We are always looking for a new challenge, so we are looking forward to this one. I have a friend in the states that has done the Warrior Dash before and he loves it….plus we LOVE mud.”

Event organisers say that it is sure to take off in New Zealand, with over 3000 participants expected in the first series, like it has in Chicago. The running series dubbed ‘The Craziest Fricken’ Day of Your Life!’ started in the windy city four years ago and since then numbers have grown to over 30,000 people, selling out in just 3 days.

Warrior Dash Wellington is on March 16th and registrations are now open. To see footage and learn more about Warrior Dash visit WarriorDash.co.nz, www.facebook.com/warriordashnz, www.twitter.com/warriordashnz or visit the Youtube Channel.
