CEO Michael Redman today announced the appointment of Council’s Blair Bowcott to the role of Deputy CEO and General Manager of Programme and Finance.

Mr Redman says that Mr Bowcott’s appointment is a reflection of his significant experience, high regard within the organisation and clear future potential.

“Blair’s appointment reflects his solid credentials particularly given the high level calibre of other applicants. The position was highly contested, so to find the best person for the role from within is tremendously gratifying. This is a key role with responsibilities that cross over the whole organisation with a focus on capital project programming, finance, property and procurement.”

Currently HCC’s Finance and Administration manager with 8 years of unit management experience at Council, Mr Bowcott says he is delighted by the appointment and eager to become a valuable member of the senior management team

“I’m looking forward to playing an integral part of the management team and to be able to positively influence the delivery of Council’s capital programme and city advancement. Its also a unique opportunity to work alongside and learn from a leader whose skills and experience I have tremendous respect for.”

The role replaces the role of general manager Corporate Services that has recently been disestablished. The new position includes the key responsibilities of overseeing alignment of funding, programming and procurement and has wide cross-organisational reach and influence.

Mr Redman says that Mr Bowcott’s appointment of Deputy CEO again strengthens the senior executive team, resulting in an increase in depth and breadth of experience in an already very strong team.

“The responsibilities within this general manager role have been increased with the responsibility of Deputy CEO being added. Deputisation of the CEO position has previously been rotated amongst the senior executive team when required. The permanent attachment of Deputy CEO to the role of General Manager of Programme and Finance provides an increased level of rigidity to the Deputy role, delivering consistency of knowledge and process.”

Mr Bowcott will commence the new position on December 10.
