BikeNZ will be looking for a new leader to guide them into a centralised administration and high performance organisation based in Cambridge.

Current CEO Kieran Turner has resigned to take up a new position in Christchurch from the end of May, giving BikeNZ a longer notice period to assist with the additional challenge of establishing the new centralised base.

“It is with some regret that we have accepted Kieran’s resignation. He had indicated earlier that he was unlikely to move to Cambridge but has played a significant role in developing the new structure when we move to the exciting new set-up at the Avantidrome,” said Chairman Richard Leggat.

Mr Leggat said the organisation had achieved much in the four and a half years under Turner’s leadership including the further development of a successful high performance programme, the national road championships and other key cycling events. He played a lead in New Zealand winning the hosting rights for this year’s UCI BMX World Championships in Auckland in July.

“We have developed high quality cycle education programmes that thousands of children have participated in and have developed and delivered coaching programmes throughout the country.”

Mr Leggat said the organisation will shortly be advertising for a replacement.
