Boston Tragedy: 3 dead, hundreds injuried

LATEST UPDATE: 4.22pm: Police and federal officials have reportedly searched an apartment in the Boston suburb of Revere in connection to the bombings.

 

DEVELOPING NEWS: A high number of children were involved in a fatal bombing in the United States town of Boston this morning , including a two-year-old boy.

The infant is being treated for a head injury, Boston's Children's Hospital said. It listed seven other children under the age of 15 among those it was treating following the bomb attack, including a nine-year-old girl with leg trauma.

However infonews.co.nz can confirm one 8 year old boy is dead.

Over at Massachusetts General Hospital, which is caring for 29 victims, injuries ranged from cuts and bruises to serious shrapnel wounds. Trauma surgeons said they had performed several amputations by mid-evening on Monday (early afternoon on Tuesday NZT).

In total, three people lost their lives and more than 100 were injured when two bombs ripped through the crowd at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, creating a gruesome scene of panic and carnage.
