Crash on Mt Messenger: Serious injuries

DEVELOPING NEWS: Over three people were injured in a crash this morning involving a car and a ute near the top of Mount Messenger.

The crash occured just before 8.30am.

A woman aged in her 60s has sustained serious injuries and remains in critical condition at the Taranaki Base Hospital while a 27 year old male has suffered serious head and upper abdominal injuries and is being urgently flown to Waikato Hospital.

Two other people have been taken to the Taranaki Base Hospital by ambulance with moderate injuries.

The crash happened about 750m north of the tunnel on Mokau Rd near the top of Mt Messenger.

Fire, police and ambulance attended the scene and freed a trapped person from a vehicle.

The road was cut to one lane with the southbound lane blocked

This follows as ANZAC day celebrations begin in New Zealand to remember those that fought for our country.
