International Star Takes Christchurch Performer Under Her Wing
Christchurch performer Nic Kyle is grabbing opportunity with both hands and is heading off to the UK with ongoing encouragement from internationally acclaimed singer Elaine Paige.
He is presenting “Who’s Afraid of Musical Theatre?”, a solo show at The Court Theatre on July 28th to raise money to secure the Lilian Baylis Studio (Sadler’s Wells Theatre) in London to perform a 45 minute showcase of his repertoire to members of the public and key people from the world of entertainment.
Kyle was selected by Paige to support her on a recent New Zealand/Australia tour, after several top Kiwi and Aussie vocalists were auditioned by the star.
Nic’s Australian performances attracted the attention of several reviewers, one of whom (David Allen) wrote, “I never thought I would stand to applaud at an Elaine Paige concert for anyone other than Elaine Paige, but Nic Kyle was the magnificent exception. His is a rare and extraordinary voice with power and range – and he knows how to use it to perform”.
Paige is actively supporting his work and career and has also spoken glowingly of his ability.
“I first heard Nic Kyle when I was auditioning guest vocalists for my 2012 Australian/New Zealand tour. I got sent a CD and immediately fell in love with the tone and quality of his voice. So it was an absolute thrill to not only have Nic join me on stage and listen to him sing every night, but also get to know this charming talented man. I hope I get the opportunity to perform with him again in the not too distant future," she says.
Nic is keeping his feet firmly on the ground and while looking forward to heading to the UK, says he will back again, “because Christchurch is my home,” he says.
