Congratulations to Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
The New Zealand College of Midwives joins with millions of people in New Zealand and around the world in congratulating the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the arrival of their son.
The Duchess is reported to have taken care with her health and prepared carefully for the birth and the College, whose members specialise in caring for women during pregnancy and birth, are delighted to hear that she had a healthy and natural birth.
“It has also been reported during her pregnancy that the Duchess wanted to breast feed her baby and we will be delighted to see her acting as a role model in this way,” says Karen Guilliland, Chief Executive of the New Zealand College of Midwives.
Many women in the world, whilst understanding the importance of breastfeeding often find it difficult to establish with their babies. The Duchess could do so much to inspire confidence in other mothers.
“It has also been reported that the Duchess has purchased a moses basket rather than a bassinet for her baby. These are similar to the ‘pepi-pods’ and wahakura that are becoming popular in New Zealand for safe sleeping with baby. This would be another wonderfully positive message about safe sleep with a baby,” says Karen Guilliland.
