A photo of his premature new born son is one of a number that won Queenstown-based photographer Fredrik Larsson from Larsson Photography eight awards in the 2013 annual Epson/New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP) Iris Awards.

The image of Noa Larsson, pictured here, received silver in the photojournalistic category held at the awards in Auckland over the weekend (Saturday August 3rd).

Mr Larsson also received two accolades for his commercial architectural images, and five in the wedding section, including silver within all three categories.

He said he was “incredibly proud” of his achievement, but particularly for recognition of his image of Noa.

“Of all awards I’ve won over the years, it’s the one that means the most,” said Mr Larsson.

“Noa was born in December 2012 two months early, and this photo was taken through the incubator in the neonatal intensive care unit at Dunedin Hospital, so it holds a lot of meaning for me.”

The NZIPP is the only qualifying body for professional photographers in New Zealand, and currently has over 350 members across New Zealand covering  commercial, portrait and wedding photography.

Every year since becoming a member of the NZIPP, Mr Larsson has won numerous annual awards, including seven in 2012, six in 2011, four in 2010 and two in 2009. He has also won a number of other awards nationally and internationally across photojournalism, commercial and wedding categories.

His work was recently published in the inaugural Advertising & Illustrative Photographers Association (AIPA) compendium of New Zealand photography. The 240-page ‘Cliq’ features 79 commercial photographers from throughout New Zealand.
