Power outages reported, two injuries and roofs flying from homes as 'awful' tornado strikes Auckland's North Shore
BREAKING NEWS: A tornado has struck Auckland's North Shore this evening as wild weather batters the North Island of the country.
The tornado began in the suburb of Devonport, witness reports say the tornado struck at 6.15pm and lasted about 25 minutes.
We have had numerous on going reports of power outages all over the city and outter suburbs but also a dramatic two injuries reported so far.
The fire service says it's responding to a number of other weather-related incidents this evening.
A Devonport resident posted to Facebook "Power lines outside just ripped out of the ground after the tornado, no power" just minutes after 7pm this evening.
A Auckland city buisness man tweeted: "Crazy tornado in Devonport. Debris hit my car where is it. damaged!"
Firefighters are in the area of Vauxhall Rd and Sinclair St near the Waitemata Golf Club where roofs have reported to have just flown off in front of the road nearby.
