International Volunteer Day
International Volunteer Day is a United Nations initiative which started in 1985 and is celebrated throughout the world on December 5 every year.
This year the Far North District Council wishes to recognise the importance, invaluable and often under-appreciated role that the large numbers of volunteers play in supporting sport and recreation in our district with spot prizes for worthy participants.
Whether this is as a coach, manager, an administrator, running the canteen, washing the jerseys or maintaining the grounds and facilities, the reality is that without your significant contribution your recreational activity may either not occur or occur with a diminished capacity.
Volunteers are the fabric of recreation in the Far North and without your time, skills, energy and in some cases a financial cost, the activities you support would be poorly served.
In recognising the huge impact that volunteers have Far North District Council is calling for each recreation club or group to nominate one person for recognition. All nominees will receive recognition and one volunteer from each community board area will be drawn from the ‘hat’ to receive a prize.
On behalf of the Far North District Council, thank you for your efforts on behalf of the sports and recreation activities in our communities. It is important to recognise the impact you have on the lives of many people.
Sport gives people a sense of discipline, teamwork, and community and provides the base on which we can achieve our personal goals and enjoy and recognise the physical and mental benefits of recreation. Without the efforts of the volunteer, sport for many simply wouldn’t happen!
Please fill out the attached nomination page and return via post or email to the Recreation Manager, Far North District Council by Tuesday 11 December 2007.
Prize winners will be directly contacted by the council.
