An Auckland couple who immigrated to NZ 12 years ago now want to repay the community that was “so kind” to them by offering up to $10,000 in donations.

Dolly and Rishi Sharma, who are both from India, say they’re aiming to provide support to up to a dozen local schools and organisations on the North Shore over the next year.

Sharma and her family moved to Glenfield from central Auckland earlier this year to be closer to the Domino’s Birkenhead store they bought last June.

“My husband Rishi and our one-year-old son Ryan love living on the Shore, and we have been made to feel very welcome,” she says.

“Ever since my husband and I moved to NZ 12 years ago, it has felt like home. We came here as young students; we didn’t even know each other – we met on the flight! Yet Kiwis have always looked after us, and now we feel it’s time for us to do something for them.”

Sharma says the donation will be made to community organisations up to a value of $10,000, and will see a dollar from every traditional pizza sold on a selected day given to the local community.
