Spa at QE runs two Rachel Pools: one hot (40 degrees Celsius) and the other tepid (35 degrees Celsius).
A Wax Bath – which sees hands and feet dipped in heated paraffin wax several times to form a thick layer of warmth and then wrapped to ensure the full benefit of that heat – is great for those who suffer from conditions such as arthritis, tendonitis and Occupational Overuse Syndrome (OOS).
The Wax Bath is also ideal for people who have aching joints or fatigued muscles following sporting injuries or cast removal.
The Rotorua region’s volcanic mud is rich in minerals. Because of this, it means it stores heat easily when warmed, making it perfect for heat treatments.
The Spa at QE offers its clients four mud-based treatments: Mud Bath, Mud Pack, Mud Facial and Mud Wrap.
The Mud Bath is individually prepared for each client and contains liquid thermal mud mixed with mineral water from the Rachel Pool. A 20-30-minute soak in our bath detoxifies and nourishes skin, invigorates circulation and provides relief from aches and pains.
It is soothing to the skin and has also been found to benefit skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
The Mud Pack involves concentrated heat applied to particular areas of the body, such as the neck and shoulders or lower back, and results in increased circulation and a high level of relaxation. The thermal mud is wrapped into a hot pack and applied to these areas.
The Mud Facial is a deep-cleansing treatment which uses mineral-rich Rotorua volcanic mud, while the Mud Wrap uses refined mud applied over the entire body.
