Measles outbreak spreading down North Island
A measles outbreak is spreading down the North Island, New Plymouth Youth In Politics can confirm tonight.
There has been ten confirmed cases linked to a Sydney dance festival, nine of the ten confirmed cases come from Taupo and Turangi.
Fairfax are reporting that public health authorities are working to contact people who may have been exposed.
Three of the Taupo cases and the Auckland case had attended the 2013 World Supremacy Battleground hip-hop competition in Sydney in December.
A spokesperson from the Ministry Of Health said that none of those confirmed have yet been hospitalized but are isolated at home.
"They're isolated at home however we have raising concerns that some of those that went to the festival have visited from other cities around New Zealand, of which cases that are not confirmed are spreading fast."
Healthline have reportedly had a worried caller from Taranaki about two children with the expected Measles who may have been in contact briefly with one of the festival goers.
Other people that went to the festival were also from Huntly and Hamilton, authorities are trying to locate them.
