‘The Stratford District Library’s Summer Reading Programme has launched! Children and parents crowded the Library for the opportunity to participate in the reading programme themed around space.

District Librarian Heather Taylor admits “we didn’t expect quite that many people on the very first day of registration, but we’re thrilled with the response. The Library was packed; there were lines almost out the door!”

The Summer Reading Programme is restricted to 50 children between 7 and 12 years of age. Heather says “of the 50 spots available, 37 were taken yesterday, and we’re expecting the others to be snapped up today.”

Plans to enlarge the programme have been on the cards since it began in 1995. “We’re always looking to include more young people in reading,” says Heather, “and we’ve made several activities at the Library over the holiday period available to everyone.”

The Stratford District Library will be gradually transformed to have a space theme over the coming weeks. Heather says “it’s out of this world!”

The School Holiday Programme runs from 15 December to 25 January.
