Commonwealth aspirant Camille Buscomb has received a financial boost from the Lions Club New Zealand, writes Kimberley Gilbert of MediaPA.

From the Waikato, Camille Buscomb is New Zealand’s leading female middle-distance athlete. She is the current champion 3000m title holder in New Zealand and is second currently over 1500 metres.
Camille has been presented recently with two cheques, one coming from the Hamilton St Andrews Lions Club, to cover her immediate expenses. The second came from District 202L’s District Banking Trust to cover substantial travelling costs. This provides the means for Camille to compete in the Australian State and Australian national championships, as well as the New Zealand championships.
“A very grateful young lady can now concentrate on training and getting herself to the track meets and do what she does best, running. She no longer needs to worry where she will find the funds. Another achievers road block removed,” says Mr Malloch
Lions responds to their community’s needs and collectively are involved in a massively diverse range of projects and activities. They have strength in numbers when collectively called on to help with a national or international situation.

At the Porritt Classic last Saturday night, Camille produced another personal best 1500 metre time but was seven seconds shy of the Commonwealth Games qualifying time. A middle distance specialist, 1500 metres and 5000 metres being her speciality, Camille understands what is required of her to achieve her dreams of competing in the 2014 Commonwealth Games Glasgow Scotland, 23rd July - 3rd August. Her longer-term ambition is to compete in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
