Engineering staff from Bay of Plenty Polytechnic were all smiles at the recent Competenz Provider Awards winning two out of a possible nine national awards.

Competenz, a national provider of apprenticeship training, work closely with industry and ITP (Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics) to deliver national qualifications to apprenticeships around the country. Eleven ITPs attended the awards, celebrating successful partnerships and acknowledging the fantastic work Polytechnics invest into the ongoing development of apprentices.

Mark Hendry, Group Leader Engineering at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, said they were thrilled to win Mechanical Engineering Block Course of the Year and Provider of the Year – Runner Up awards.

“While we are only a small polytechnic compared to some of the national metro tertiary providers, our facilities are second to none. The awards reflect both the calibre of our facilities and our teaching staff. It’s the staff who really win these awards – the passion they have for the industry and for ensuring their students have the best possible learning experience.”

Other winners of the night included The Open Polytechnic, WINTEC, MIT, NMIT and CPIT.
