Volunteers Get a ‘Thank You’
They are the heart of our district, so next week the community’s volunteers are invited to a thank you lunch.
The 2007 Volunteers End of Year Celebration is being held at the New Plymouth Sports Fishing and Underwater Club at noon on Friday 14 December.
NPDC Manager Community Development says the BBQ lunch is a gesture of appreciation for the selfless work that so many volunteers do in the community.
“These are the people who keep sports events going, who provide home help, who work on fundraising or delivering cultural services, just to name a few things,” says Ms Kopu.
“They are a big part of the reason why our community is thriving.
“It would be great to see as many volunteers as possible taking part in the celebratory lunch.”
People can register their place by Thursday 13 December by contacting the council or Volunteer Support Services.
Serving lunch to the volunteers will be numerous community leaders – among them Mayor Peter Tennent, Taranaki Daily News Editor Jonathan Mackenzie, MP Harry Duynhoven, WAVES Coordinator Louise Roebuck, TSB Community Trust’s Colleen Tuuta and councillor John McLeod.
