Auckland-based family business Core Blimey have donated some much needed hay to the New Zealand Riding for the Disabled Association in an act of social giving.

Core Blimey, which has been operating for 15 years, specialises in a wide range of packaging products, providing everything from mailing tubes to bubble wrap to cardboard boxes and to singlet bags.

Vicki Greenbury, co-owner of Manukau-based Core Blimey, is on the Board of Trustees of her children’s school and has been for several years.

“We have had a student in the past with huge physical and mental disabilities who benefitted greatly from her time at Riding for the Disabled at Totara Park, Manukau,” says Vicki Greenbury.

The New Zealand Riding for the Disabled Association is a charitable organisation which provides opportunities for anyone with a disability to enjoy safe, healthy, stimulating, therapeutic horse riding and horse-related activities in New Zealand.

“Rob and I have always thought it was a fantastic service and being a horse owner myself I know the special relationships that can be forged between horses and people,” adds Vicki Greenbury.

A friend and neighbour of Rob and Vicki at Hunua was recently employed as a manager by the New Zealand Riding For The Disabled Association in Manukau.

Shortly afterwards in December of 2014, she put out a call via social media for donations of any leftover hay from last season for the RDA.  “We were happy to help and donated around 20 bales of hay which worth around $10 per bale,” says Vicki Greenbury.

“When we cut our new season hay in late January 2015 we asked RDA if they would like to have some of the hay (at cost) as we usually have far more that we want or are willing to store,” say Vicki.

“They were happy to pay the $4 per bale cost and ended up with 97 bales of hay.  This is a significant saving for them, as mentioned above the value of this hay is around $10- $12 per bale depending on the season.  Ours is good quality, horse friendly and weed-free hay,” added Vicki Greenbury.
