Last week New Zealand Prime Minister John Key visited Cave World in Waitomo to  celebrate the momentous opening of its Latest addition to the Footwhistle Glowworm Cave tour, a newly built Punga Hut Tea House.

A Kawa Kawa tree was planted by John Key to mark the launch of the tea-growing venture at Cave World.

Kawa Kawa is a special Herb to Maori and was used as a health tonic. Cave World’s traditional Punga Hut is where you will be treated to a tasting of this special Tea while nestled in forest surrounds .

“We needed a point of difference for the market to understand that we are different and that we are a boutique operation,” said owner-operator Kyle Barnes.

“It was a special occasion to launch a our new product and to have the Prime Minister come. We now have a plaque outside the tea house commemorating the Prime Minister’s Opening.”

Cave World is a family-owned and operated boutique tourism business dedicated to giving its customers the best caving and Glow worm experiences.

Kyle Barnes was a guide on the first commercial tour through this cave in 1992.

He has more than 20 years guiding and customer service experience.  Meanwhile, Kyle’s father, Ross Barnes, who is also a guide at Caveworld started guiding at the Glowworm  Caves in the early 1970’s.

After nearly 10 years Ross Barnes then joined the Department of Conservation where he was employed as a ranger building walkways in the area. Two of his creations are rated in the top 10 short walks in New Zealand.

Marlene Henry the bubbly receptionist who is always keen to help, started as a guided at the Glow worm Caves in 1997 before moving into reservations at Caveworld,  She too can be found guiding when its busy in the summer months.

Cave World has two absolutely amazing options for visitors which includes their tranquil Glow worm walk through tour, The Footwhistle Cave,  which is one of the largest in Waitomo.

The Footwhistle Cave  supports some of the best Glow worm displays and every tour feels like an intimate trip where you can discover this cave as if was for the first time.

For those looking for a little more of a fun-filled adventure, Tube It is a cave tubing option available for visitors at Cave World.

Tube It provides an amazing experience where you are taken through a beautiful cave on an inner tyre tube and float under the most amazing displays of Glow worms!

The Footwhistle Tour with complimentary Kawakawa tea tasting has a guide to client ratio of 13-1, which provides every customer with that personal touch. The ability to take photos in this Cave is a major reason why Cave World is very different and a cut above the rest.

With a strong focus on quality product, family culture and great personal service, Cave World in Waitomo is ideal for those seeking a boutique and authentic experience.
