Council Acts on Tairua Boardwalk Bridge
The land developer behind a new bridge over Graham’s Creek in Tairua has been served with a Notice to Fix the structure under the Building Act.
The boardwalk was constructed to link a new subdivision to Graham’s Creek and Ocean Beach Rd and was built on a flood plain administered by Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) and the Department of Conservation. It links to a bridge over Graham’s Creek and a path cut through native vegetation on Council reserve land.
Thames-Coromandel District Council Group Manager Environmental Services Sam Napia says during the construction of the bridge no inspections were obtained to ensure that the bridge was built in accordance with consented plans and the New Zealand Building Code.
“We have issued a Notice to Fix, requiring the developer to obtain a Code Compliance Certificate before allowing public use of the bridge,” Mr Napia said.
