TAUPO

On Wednesday afternoon, Taupo District Council’s Community Services team and Huka Lodge ran the very popular Huka Lodge Christmas function for senior citizens in Taupo.

True to previous years the event was a winner with the senior citizens. It was a sensational afternoon for everyone involved thanks to the combination of the fine weather, the lovely venue, and a talented group of entertainers.

The guests, who were from Taupo's rest homes, the Senior Citizens organisation and Age Concern, were warmly welcomed by Lodge Manager Willem Pentermann. Mayor Rick Cooper also spoke, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and joined in with the Christmas carols.

“The function was a real success; congratulations to the organisers and performers for creating a fun day for everyone involved”, said Mayor Cooper.

“It was a great opportunity to meet people from an important part of the Taupo community”, he said.

The entertainment included an interesting array of musical performances from

Richard Paull, Awhimai Fraser, Hetty Simmonds, Thunes Cloete, Don Ryder, Ruby Solly, Maureen Potter, and Ros Gale. M.C. extraordinaire Kirsty Stickland played her role well and kept all in order.

Even Santa made an appearance, arriving in style in a helicopter provided by Clark & Jolly Helicopters, much to the guests’ delight he handed out gifts from Huka Lodge.

A favourite audience item was the Fashion of the Ages Fashion Parade, courtesy of Taupo Opportunity Shop, with council staff members receiving a big cheer from the audience.
