Lloyd and Debbie Stone from Hamilton-based, award winning Arena Court Motor Lodge look forward to what a merger could offer their hotel.
HOSPITALITY New Zealand and the Motel Association of New Zealand (MANZ) have begun preliminary talks about an exciting new partnership between the two associations.
The Motel Association recently had their annual conference in Dunedin where the merger was discussed and approval for the board to further investigations towards progressing into the future by those attending.
Lloyd Stone owner of Hamilton’s Arena Court Motel, as well as Waikato Motel Association Vice President was present at the conference: “There were some real positives from the conference, the merger would offer some great opportunities,” said Lloyd. “We don’t want to disregard the Tourism Industry Association through this as tourism is our main focus,” continues Lloyd.
Lloyd and Debbie Stone who have been in the hospitality industry for a number of years are part of the Motel Association and look forward to what the merger could offer their motel Arena Court Motel.
Arena Court Motel, which is situated at 21 Willoughby St, Hamilton is one of Hamilton’s newest motels. At Arena Court Motel all rooms are double-glazed and well appointed and also include air conditioning, cooking facilities, fridge and tea and coffee making facilities, with scrumptious breakfasts available, and a chargeback facility with many local restaurants.
The merger, which brings together Hospitality New Zealand’s 2500 hospitality businesses which include many of the restaurants, cafes and bars and MANZ 800 motel members, will create a greater membership base and hopefully appeal to more people to join.
“The merger could create one accommodation sector body that includes all forms of accommodation and puts them all under one umbrella.” Says Lloyd.
Peter Nash, president of MANZ, has said: “I can say with confidence that the merger we have planned with HNZ will offer our members much better value and a brighter future.”
Both organizations say it is early days and there is much work to do to ensure a positive outcome but already talks have been running for several months and the feedback has been positive.
Hospitality New Zealand will now have their annual meeting and an outcome from these current talks is expected to be announced in October.
