Human health starts in the soil and Uptake fertilisers takes your health seriously.
Healthy soil grows healthy, nutritious pasture. Animals eat grass from the pasture and grow into strong, healthy specimens. We, in turn, eat the animals or use their products, benefiting from their good health. It’s a cycle which seems obvious when you think about it, yet John Davis of Uptake says it’s not something consumers tend to think about.
“The food we eat comes from the soil and it all starts there,” says Mr Davis. “There is a lack of focus on the soil replenishment of minerals for the health and condition of plants and stock”.
Uptake Fertilizers, based in Taupo, has been in business since 1984. Their sensible strategy of replenishing the nutrients in the soil and their success in growing the health of stock has made them industry leaders in environmentally friendly fertiliser production.
Tarnia Morris, sales representative for Uptake, says it’s important for people to realise Uptake’s fertilising system is not only beneficial for farmers. As food consumers, we are all affected by what happens in the soil. Whether you buy your food from the supermarket, grocery store or farmers market, we are all at the end of a chain which started at the farm, in the ground.
Tarnia says there is too much food being sold which lacks nutritional value and this increases the need for people to take nutritional supplements to compensate.
“The food farmers produce lacks nutritional sufficiency because the minerals necessary are not being returned to the soil in any order of removal,” she says. “This means that people are not eating healthy, nutritionally sufficient food”.
