End of an era and new beginnings are happening at Hamilton Based John Griffin Realty Ltd.
After more than 48 years in the motel industry John and Anne Griffin are hanging up there business hats to retire and put on their garden ones.
John Griffin Realty though will continue providing specialised motel industry service under the new management of Kathie and Richard Shepard.
John has achieved many milestones in his successful career. He is known as an industry expert and referred to for advice by many sectors of the industry. “It has been a fulfilling career. I enjoyed being able to specialise and make sales, as well as being able to meet and connect with so many wonderful people in this industry,” says John Griffin.
He is an accredited Reinz business broker and has been awarded Fellow of The Real Estate Institute, life membership of The Waikato Motel Association and The Motel Association of New Zealand and is the Waikato Representative on the REINZ business broker’s sector group. “Getting to travel all around the North Island was one of his favourite parts of my job.”
His experience and knowledge has helped many within the industry and although not on the coal face he will continue to be a valuable part of John Griffin Realty in a consultancy role as required.
After 10 years of hands on operating a motel Kathie joined John Griffin Realty in 1996 and has been mentored by John throughout the last 10 years. She has motel operational experience, been on the Waikato Motel Association committee and the Motel Association of New Zealand board, has completed her national Diploma In Real Estate, is an accredited REINZ business broker and an associate of The Real Estate Institute.
Kathie and her husband Richard who has operational, management and administrative skills will take over the company and plan to continue on from John and Anne with the same good service and ethics.
They say there will no doubt be some evolution and changes in the future but the fundamentals learned from john and Anne will remain as the basis for the company.
In his retirement John is looking forward to “Travelling to visit family in Europe and taking up some form of sport, maybe bowls,” adds John.
