Alpha Motor Inn Displays the Qualmark Logo

Do you look for the Qualmark logo when you’re booking accommodation? You should, according to Brenda Malan, owner of Palmerston North’s Alpha Motor Inn.
Qualmark is owned by Tourism New Zealand and is New Zealand tourism’s official quality assurance organisation.
Brenda Malan says having Qualmark accreditation and displaying the Qualmark logo means visitors are able to tell at a glance if a motel has met Tourism New Zealand standards.
Jo Inglis, Account Manager for Qualmark, says, “as a Qualmark Licence Holder, Alpha Motor Inn is recognised as one of New Zealand tourism’s quality accommodation providers”.
In an official letter sent to Alpha Motor Inn to recognise their Qualmark accreditation, Ms Inglis stated, “you have met the high standards set by the industry and can proudly display your Qualmark star rating indicating you are committed to providing quality visitor experiences to domestic and international guests.”
Brenda Malan says she and husband Farnie, who have been running Alpha Motor Inn since January 2015, are proud of their Qualmark accreditation.
“We’ve worked very hard to get Alpha Motor Inn to where it is today,” says Brenda, “so having that recognition from Qualmark is important to us.”
When Brenda Malan says she’s worked very hard, she’s not kidding. The Malans took over what was once a run-down motel and, in one year, through determination and hard work, turned it around and made into the quality motel it is today.
“We want it to be nice and comfortable for people,” says Brenda. “We have a gift for anybody that comes from overseas. I ask them, did you come from overseas? And if they come from Nelson, they’ve come from overseas. They did not get here by car. They came overseas. They also get a gift.”
It’s touches like that which gives Alpha Motor Inn its charm and makes it the type of place recognised by Tourism New Zealand and the Qualmark standard.
