In the past months, many Auckland households have received notices from WaterCare Services suggesting that their water bill is higher than usual, says General Manager of BT Plumbing and Gas Bruce Trenwith.

These increases in water consumption can usually be attributed to water leaks, and whether they are big or small, they are costing Auckland households extra money that many people won’t have, says Mr Trenwith.

Knowing that you have a leak is one thing, but finding it can be difficult and doing it wrong can be costly and very time consuming.

As long-standing members of the Master Plumbers Association, BT Plumbing and Gas and their subsidiary Complete Detection are experts at detecting water leaks without digging up your driveway or putting unnecessary holes in the walls.

Using their specialised equipment, Complete Detection uses a stethoscope-like piece of electronic listening equipment that allows their experienced technicians to locate water leaks in the ground.

Pipe tracing equipment allows their qualified technicians and plumbers to trace the direction that your pipes take from the meter to your house, including the depth which they sit.

As part of their quality service and expert workmanship, BT Plumbing and Gas will find the leak quickly so that their plumbers can ensure the leak is contained as soon as possible, with the least invasive method possible.

If you suspect you have a leak, one of the simplest ways to check is to compare your water bills and consider whether there has been a significant increase in the readings from month to month. Firstly account for any changes in lifestyle such as, whether there are more people using water in your house or possibly a change of seasons.

If the meter is sky-rocketing or if you suspect a small leak, call BT Plumbing and Gas today so that one of their qualified plumbers can stop the leak in its tracks.
