WE HAVE all experienced the blast of unbearably hot water momentarily hit our body once someone is finished using the bathroom in the other room.

While this may be nothing more than a quick fright for some, the quick thermal shocks can cause scalding burns. Anti-scald valve is a purchase that all families should be considering to keep their children safe.

Firstly a lot of families will be curious as to what an anti-scald valve (ASV) actually is. The purpose of ASV is to regulate water pressure and temperature.

Being available in a number of ways such as being Thermostatically controlled and pressure sensitive, by having this device installed in individual showers, the risk of having scalding burns from heat spikes in the shower is eradicated.

BetterHealth has stated that the average water temperature of a household is 70 ºC, this is dangerous for children as at 60 ºC it only takes one second of hot water to cause third degree burns and 10 seconds at 55 ºC. Not only does these consequences of hot showers show the need to consider having cold showers. Not do these consequences of hot showers show the need to consider having cold showers, but the benefits that come from having cold showers enforce the importance of them. Some of the benefits provided by MedicalDaily include: refining hair and skin, stimulating weight lost, easing stress and relieving depression. With such simple benefits from having a cold shower, what’s stopping people from opting to having them rather than running the risk of scalding?.

It goes without saying that a parent will do anything to keep their children safe, but the unknown dangers of household appliances such as showers is an area that needs to be prioritised more. Families making sure an ASV is installed in all showers and bathrooms within their homes guarantee unsuspected shower burns.
