Nelson's Chelsea Park Motor Lodge is Part of New Zealand's Café Capital

Nelson’s Chelsea Park Motor Lodge is perfectly situated for any visiting café lover.

Positioned halfway down Rutherford Street, in the central city district, Chelsea Park Motor Lodge is walking distance to a number of Nelson’s best quality cafés.

Lee and Barry Sinclair, owner/operators of Chelsea Park Motor Lodge, say the café scene is one of Nelson’s many highlights.

“When our guests arrive,” says Lee, “they often want to check in, unpack and go for a look around Nelson, starting with a refreshing cup of tea or coffee at a local café.”

Chelsea Motor Lodge’s guests are in luck, as it turns out Nelson is home to the most cafés per capita in New Zealand!

Here are Lee’s picks of three of Nelson’s best cafés, all of which are within walking distance of Chelsea Park Motor Lodge:

Zumo Coffee House

 “Coffee aficionados rave about it,” says Lee. 

Only 9 minutes’ walk from Chelsea Park Motor Lodge, on Rutherford Street, the award-winning coffee roastery not only makes quality espresso for guests to sit down and enjoy with a snack, they also have bags of whole or ground beans for sale so you can enjoy Zumo coffee at home or at your accommodation.

Yaza Café

Just down the road and around the corner, in Montgomery Square, Yaza Café is an eight minute stroll from Chelsea Park Motor Lodge. 

Yaza Café has a range of breakfast and lunch items, hot and cold drinks, cabinet food and a licensed bar.  Lee says the coffee is great and highly recommends the cheese scones.

River Kitchen

If a slightly longer stroll in the sunshine is what you need (after all, Nelson is also famous for having the most sunshine hours in New Zealand), a leisurely 15 minutes will take you to River Kitchen in Trafalgar Street.

“River Kitchen has great food and lovely lookout across the Maitai River,” says Lee.  “Also it’s next door to the iSite, to get all the information you need to fill in your Nelson day”.
