Most of blonde hair maintenance takes being in the shower. The ideal plan is to shampoo every 2 or 3 days using blonde-specific shampoo. Purple shampoos and conditioners deposit just a hint of violet to cancel out any yellow or brassy tones.
“To keep the colour fresh in between salon visits, we recommend a silver shampoo to maintain the colour weekly such as InVision Silver Shampoo. InVision Silver Shampoo is great for reducing unwanted gold yellow and brassy tones from pre-lightened, blonde and bleached hair,” says leading Hamilton Hairdresser Kaleb Phillippe, owner of the popular The Engine Room.
It’s also best to deep condition often to keep it looking healthy. To avoid looking like you’ve got straw for hair, use a deep conditioning treatment, and use it often.
“We use Morocco Argan Oil infused treatment which provides shine, softness and suppleness to hair while protecting against dryness and environmental damage,” adds Kaleb.
Hot tools aren't good for any colour hair, but they're especially threatening to blonde hair. If you can’t avoid using that hair straightener or hair dryer, make sure you lessen the damage.
“Use a heat protecting cream, spray, or balm to combat damage, this will also keep colour from fading,” says Kaleb.
“People who are highlighting their hair should get it trimmed every six to eight weeks, as blonde hair, both natural and dyed, tends to be finer, so by not trimming regularly and they have split ends, that split will travel all the way up to the root,” says Kaleb.
Even if you're growing out your hair, it's important to keep it healthy by getting regular trims.
