Meet Glenys Metcalfe of Century 21 Gold Real Estate, Manurewa
Glenys Metcalfe, Sales Person at Century 21 Gold Real Estate, Manurewa, has been in sales for a very long time.
Born and bred in South Auckland, by the time Glenys was a teenager she was already well experienced in the world of sales.
“I was brought up in Manurewa,” says Glenys. “I would get my family together on a Friday night and we would do baking. The next morning I would take it to the Mangere Market which, back in those days, was near Nga Tapuwae College.”
Glenys says she learned to do “whatever it took” to make ends meet and to have a little bit of extra spending money for herself.
“My father was killed in Vietnam. He was one of 16 Kiwi soldiers who didn’t come back from the Vietnam War. I felt it was important for me to start earning money. I started in sales at a very young age and that’s how I’ve always earned my money.”
Glenys started working at Century 21 Gold Manurewa after meeting Derryn Mayne and being impressed with her high standards and values.
“I met Derryn and I thought, ‘I like her and I’d like to work with her’. Derryn advised me to go and see what everybody was like first, so I did – I went out and interviewed everybody.
“At the end of the day, Derryn’s style, the person she is and the kind of culture she is involved with is the type of person I want to work with. That’s why, in the end, I went full circle and came back to her.”
