Hamilton's Argent Motor Lodge Supports Women and Children Via Quilts

Hamilton’s award-winning accommodation provider Argent Motor Lodge has shown its support for local women and children by making a donation towards a special project, bringing joy, colour and warmth to recipients of two charitable organisations in the Waikato.
Rainbow Place, part of the Waikato Community Hospice located on Cobham Drive in Hamilton, is a provider of specialist nursing care, therapeutic support and counselling for children and young people living through change, loss and grief around serious illness and bereavement.
Rainbow place provides support for children throughout the Waikato, King Country and Thames/Coromandel regions.
Marion Manning, who was recently a guest at Argent Motor Lodge, has been hand-making quilts for Rainbow Place, using her own money to buy materials and spending hours at her home in Australia carefully stitching together quilts with the children of Rainbow Place in mind.
“I initially made eight quilts for Rainbow Place and posted them in November 2015, then delivered another eight in February 2016 and six more in person just this last week,” says Marion.
“This will be an ongoing process as I would like to make a quilt for every baby, child and teen who is cared for by the Hospice.”
The other charity to benefit from Marion’s quilts is the Bryant Retreat for Women, in Raglan, which provides a peaceful retreat for women who need time out from the pressures of life.
“The Bryant Retreat for Women is a wonderful organisation,” says Marion, “so I decided to make single bed quilts for them. I also made six lap quilts for use in their TV room. These quilts are a one-off and will be permanently at the Retreat.”
Graeme Hunt, owner of Argent Motor Lodge, says he was so impressed by what Marion was doing he decided to donate money towards the purchase of materials for her to continue her good work.
“Argent Motor Lodge is committed to giving back to the community,” says Graeme, “and this was an opportunity to support someone who is making a difference in a unique way.
“What Marion is doing is delightful and Argent Motor Lodge was more than happy to make a contribution to her cause.”
