Around this time, all across the country, district councils are once again turning their attention to their Long Term Council Community Plan.

These typically massive documents set out the direction the community has indicated they wish to follow, and assesses how the council has worked towards that direction. By law, councils must produce an LTCCP every 3 years, and it takes a great deal of time and effort to produce each one.

The Stratford District Council has already started working towards their 2009 LTCCP. To produce a meaningful document, they have been asking what Stratford will be like in the future. Stratford District Council’s CEO Michael Freeman said, “we have decided to run a ‘Stratford Vision’ competition to get further community input into the future.”

The ‘Stratford Vision’ competition asks for written responses to the question “What would you like the Stratford District to look like for your grandchildren?” A prize worth $100 has been set aside for the winner of the competition, which will be drawn after entries close on Friday 18 January 2008.

The competition details are available on the Stratford District Council website (www.stratford.govt.nz).
